Direct TV Offers Cutting Edge High Definition At Its Best

DIRECTV has one mission when it comes to high definition. That is to provide their subscribers with the very best opportunity to view their favorite programming in HD as quickly and as affordable as possible. High definition is most definitely in demand. Today, the clarity and the breathtaking picture that only HD can offer is necessary to have. With colors that simply pop off the screen, subscribers who experience these characteristics only want one more thing: more!

Providing high definition service is a tricky consideration, especially since so many obstacles have made the transition difficult not only for Direct TV but for any television providers. With demand high and new technology in the wings continuously, HD television is set to hit your screen soon.

High definition is a type of television method that allows for a better picture with much more detail. Traditional television, or SD, made up of 480 horizontal lines of resolution. With high definition, that resolution increases to 720 or 1080 horizontal lines of resolution. With this improvement in numbers, the picture becomes clearer, brighter and incredibly lifelike. It definitely makes television seem more like real life.

Another difference between the two is in the size of the HD screen. With SD, you get a picture ratio of 4:3, which is virtually square. However, with high definition, you get an improvement to 16:9, which makes it rectangular. In doing so, you can see more of the picture and this allows you to see much more than you would with SD television. Many find that by increasing like this, the picture looks more like what you would see on a movie screen.

The Direct TV HD package currently leads any other providers capacity including cable and Dish Network. The HD package does cost a little extra per month but it is hardly noticeable. The good news is that the satellite service offers some of the best options in high definition so you get a better picture more often. The programming that they offer is thanks to DIRECTV-10, a recently launched satellite that increased their high definition capacity. The company already has the DIRECTV-11 delivered and ready to launch in early 2008 which will increase their capacity for national HD channels by over %50. This service is perhaps the most technological advanced you will find in this area. Upon orbit of the additional satellite, Direct TV will have the capacity to serve 150 national and 1,500 local high definition channels.

Some of the channels already available include A&E, HBO HD, Food Network, HGTV, Fox Business, CMT, MTV, NBA TV, NFL TV, NHL TV and much more. There is also the ability to get many of your local favorites included as well. This includes NBC HD, ABC HD, CBS HD and Fox HD. Sports fans are able to get Direct TV's line that includes FSN and a number of other sports programming options as well.

Satellite television allows you to obtain some of the best pictures in your television programming. While not available in all markets just yet, Direct TV plans to offer its programming to 76 large markets across the country by the middle of 2008, with many more to come.
