Directv And Dish Network Special Promotional Packages

By Julia Hall

A great thing about satellite television is that two different companies offer it. This lets the customer have plenty of choices for the right satellite television package. It has become pretty clear to many people that satellite television is a better way to go than cable television. However, choosing between the two satellite television companies is still a major decision. Depending on which company you go with, you'll get access to different channels and different programming options in . You might also pay a different price for the type of service you are after or pay more or less for your necessary equipment. This makes time spent comparing the two companies a valuable exercise that can bring many rewards in the future.

One of the major things you have to be aware of when comparing the two companies is the type of programming packages they each offer and the prices they charge for them. Unfortunately, comparing the prices for each package is not as simple as it might seem because each company includes different things as part of the package prices. For example, Directv might have a higher price per channel for a package, but it includes locals in with the package prices. Dishnetwork charges an extra $5.99 each month to get local channels. You will also find difference in the price charged for access to equipment like digital video recorders, high definition receivers, and other advanced equipment. If you want more than one receiver you will also find a difference in cost. Dishnetwork includes all receiver within one house for free, while Directv levies an extra charge for more than one.

Direct TV Deals has three main programming packages with some variations. Total Choice is the entry-level package with 140 channels including locals and XM satellite radio. Total Choice Xtra is the middle level package with 185 channels. This package is also available in a Plus version that provides DVR service, or a Plus HD version that also provides HD access. Directv's ultimate package is the Total Choice Premier, which has over 250 channels. This package includes a Sports pack with over 30 channels and the HBO, Starz, Cinemax, and Showtime movie packages.

Dish Network has a different package selection. Theirs starts at 100 channels in America's Top 100. From there, it increases dramatically to 200 channels with the Top 200. At the Top 250 level, you get access to all the general entertainment channels possible and at the America's Everything Package level, you also get access to the premium movie channels. Some packages have specials that let you choose a premium movie channel at a lower level, and Dishnetwork's DishDVR Advantage package lets you get DVR access included along with a 200 channel package.

As you can see, each company has a different selection of package sizes and choices, but there are also other differences. High definition television is becoming more popular and you will find an assortment of HDTV channels through either company. Currently Dishnetwork has 31 HDTV channels in a package that can be added on to any other programming package. Directtv has about 11 HDTV channels that are available through Total Choice Plus HD or as an individual add-on. Both companies can get you access to your local channels in high definition where they are available.

The presence of two satellite television companies makes it more difficult to make a decision about which television service provider to use, but it does provide a lot more choices for the customer. We feel that Dishnet gives you sightly more bang for your buck with the current special deals.
